Embattled New York Republican George Santos’ time in Congress may prove short-lived after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy raised his potential impeachment.

GOP Leader McCarthy told a press conference on Tuesday that the congressman would be ousted if the House Ethics Committee finds he broke the law.

“If somehow we go through ethics and he broke the law, we’ll fire him,” he said.

“The American public in his district voted for him. He has a responsibility to stand up for what they voted for, to work and make their voices heard here, but at any time, if it reaches a legal level, then we will deal with it.

His comments come as Mr Santos said he was “saddened” to learn that fellow GOP member John Kennedy called him “crazy as fruitcake” and a “rabbit boiler” – a reference to Glenn Close’s unhinged psychotic character in the 1987 film. Fatal attraction.

Mr Santos continues to face intense scrutiny for a series of lies he committed while running for office. More recently it emerged that he claimed to have survived an unidentified assassination attempt.

Voters strongly support the resignation of embattled Rep. George Santos, poll shows

A majority of New Yorkers want embattled Republican Rep. George Santos to step down amid a flurry of reports that he fabricated large parts of his life story, according to a new poll from Siena College.

A total of 59% of registered voters said Santos should resign from Congress, with 64% of Democrats saying he should. A plurality of Republicans – 49% – also want Mr. Santos to resign. It comes despite Mr. Santos unseating a Long Island district that voted overwhelmingly for President Joe Biden.

Late night comedians let loose as George Santos complained about their ‘terrible’ impressions of him

A comedian has applauded Congressman George Santos after the New York Republican complained that comedians appeared on late-night talk shows to poke fun at him after he was caught up in a litany of lies.

“I’ve made late night TV history now with all of these impersonations, but they’ve all been TERRIBLE so far. Jon Lovitz is supposed to be one of the greatest comedians of all time and that was embarrassing – for him not for me! These comedians need to step up their game,” Santos tweeted Monday night.

“At last!!! You are being honest about something!!!” Mr. Lovitz responded on Twitter.

Santos’ FEC filing raises new questions over $500,000 campaign loan

George Santos filed an amended financial disclosure form with the FEC on Tuesday, and with it began the new branch of this seemingly endless controversy.

The newly sworn in congressman has now admitted that two loans to his campaign, totaling $500,000 and $125,000, did not in fact come from his personal funds, as previously claimed.

But even stranger is the lack of information indicating where they actually came from – the new documents still say the loans came “from the applicant” in some way, but no other facts are known with certainty.

The loans could be tied to a company that The New York Times reported that he solicited political donations, despite not being registered with the FEC: RedStone Strategies.

Drag artist claims George Santos was liberal in Brazil but went crazy when he moved to the US

A Brazilian drag artist who knew George Santos when he lived in the country has revealed more about the congressman’s political past in a new interview with Initiated.

Eula Rochard explained in her last interview that Mr Santos had once been a proud supporter of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – the current president of Brazil, who recently returned to office after successfully battling corruption charges, according to he and his followers were politically motivated.

Support for Lula and his story as a drag performer would be politically meaningless if it weren’t for the current conservative right-wing fixation on drag shows, drag performers, and all of LGBT America.

It’s unclear where the clip came from, but Mr. Santos can be seen wearing the same suit he wore in the original photos provided to TMZ and other news outlets by a drag queen who knew him from the time, Eula Rochard.

George Santos ‘saddened’ after Republican senator calls him a ‘hazelnut fruitcake rabbit boiler’

Embattled New York Republican George Santos is ‘saddened’ that fellow party member John Kennedy called him ‘crazy as a fruitcake’ and ‘rabbit boiler’ – a reference to the unhinged psychotic persona of Glenn Close in the 1987 film Fatal attraction.

Mr Santos responded to the Louisiana Republican’s comments on Tuesday. “I am saddened that a distinguished GOP senator, whom I respected, used such derogatory language against me,” he said.

“Language like that is hurtful and divisive, and has no place in Congress,” he added.

Voice: Why Kevin McCarthy can’t leave George Santos

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy — not to mention the rest of the GOP leadership — probably can’t afford to give up on George Santos for one simple reason — math.

If Mr. Santos was from a redder neighborhood, it might have been easier to give him the boot. But Mr. Santos is one of 18 Republicans who represent a district President Joe Biden won in 2022. Mr. Biden won New York’s 3rd District by eight points and a Democrat previously held the seat. Mr. Santos won the seat mostly by accident: Governor Kathy Hochul significantly underperformed on Long Island in the November election and Republicans won four seats in the region.

Mr. Santos has mostly reaped the benefits of Democratic incompetence in the region, and they likely wouldn’t be caught napping if the seat were to open.
