Willem Dafoe and Christoph Waltz are set to star side-by-side in an all-new western that feels like a modern take on tomb stone. The movie is called dead for a dollar and sees Waltz return as a bounty hunter, a role he played so confidently in Django Unchained. Dafoe, meanwhile, plays an outlaw who is freed. Naturally, he returns to his shooting ways to find a way to get revenge on the man who put him in prison. You can see the trailer below:

dead for a dollar brings back the Spaghetti Western feel, as the trailer is full of gunfights. The subplot is also very interesting, as Rachel Brosnahan plays the role of a woman who left town with a black man. Her husband then pays Max Borlund de Waltz to find her and keep her safe while she arrives. However, Brosnahan’s character reveals that her husband plans to kill her as soon as he sees her. We imagine that puts Borlund in a valuable position as to the moral ground he plans to stand on. Dafoe aka Joe Cribbens looks like the typical villain type, only he could hunt down Borlund just like he hunts down the woman he was handsomely paid for. Willem Dafoe and Christoph Waltz are fantastic in the film.

dead for a dollar follows Max Borlund (Christoph Waltz) as he meets Joe Cribbens (Willem Dafoe), his nemesis and the one he sent to prison. Borlund is tasked with finding the wife of a businessman held captive in Mexico. During the task at hand, a mobster played by Benjamin Bratt then wants a share of Cribbebns profits, as he gets a share of all deals near the Mexican border. The film was written and directed by Walter Hill. Hill famous directed 48 hours, 48 more hours, Crossroads, The Warriors, and much more. The film will officially debut on September 6 at the Venice Film Festival. Hill will also receive the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the festival, for his contribution to the contemporary film industry.

The film is packed with top talent, as Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe, and Benjamin Bratt have won or been nominated for Oscars for their performances in films. Rachel Brosnahan won Emmys for her performances on the hit series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Brandon Scott, Warren Burke, Hamish Linklater and Guy Burnet join these award-winning actors. It looks like Hill is aiming for awards recognition, as the fall months are the usual release time for the awards circuit.

Although dead for a dollar will premiere in four days at the Venice Film Festival, it will officially hit theaters on September 30. The film resembles the prototypical western, but in a good way. There’s something about gunfights in the Wild West that makes every movie of this genre quite exciting. We can’t wait to see Christoph Waltz and Willem Dafoe stalk each other.
