Riot Games has confirmed the theft of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics source codes.
As Video Games Chronicle reports, a social engineering attack resulted in the theft of source codes for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. As a result, Riot received an email detailing a ransom, which the studio says it won’t pay. Fortunately, Riot assures players that their personal information is not compromised. The source code “may increase the likelihood of new cheats emerging”, but also includes “a number of experimental features”. “We are committed to transparency and will publish a full report in the future detailing attackers’ techniques, areas where Riot’s security checks have failed, and the steps we are taking to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” Riot wrote.
