The Callisto Protocol is about to be a bloody ride, with horror games relying heavily on gruesome deaths, slimy creatures, and plenty of stomach-churning quests. If you get the wrong foot in the game, you’ll be sucked into a conveyor belt, with every bone crushed along the way. Come across a wandering creature and you’ll find yourself bloodied, bruised and battered. If you buy the game’s season pass, there will even be After ways to die.
According to developer Striking Distance Studios, The Callisto Protocol will include post-launch DLC that adds 13 new death animations for protagonist Jacob – likely more gruesome and over-the-top than anything included in the base game. For the more depraved among us, the add-ons are certainly worth shelling out the extra cash for – although if you have a weaker stomach, this pack might be best avoided.
Along with new death animations, the game’s season pass will also feature new skins, a unique Contagion mode with reduced ammo and health drops, new story DLC, and a new area – Black Iron Prison.
Lily: The Callisto Protocol has been canceled in Japan
Although it was initially reported that these death animations were separate from the main story, game creator and director Glen Schofield recently took to Twitter to confirm that the content will be completely new.
“To be clear, we’re not holding back anything from the main game for the season pass,”
, amid a growing backlash. “We haven’t even started working on that content yet. These are all new things that we will be working on in the new year. Fans have been asking for even more kills, so we’re making it a priority next year.

Schofield seems determined to make The Callisto Protocol one of the bloodiest and most repulsive games on the mainstream market – and the Season Pass DLC content could certainly help realize that vision. Already the game has been banned from sale in Japan following censorship demands, and that should give a pretty clear indication of the horror behind this game.
Expect to die, die and die some more when The Callisto Protocol launches for PlayStation 4, PlayStation5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC on December 2, 2022.
