DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 520 sheep and six prime cattle at their sale yesterday.

Prime (6) heifers averaged 253.4p per kg (+2.0p) and sold at 266.0p per kg for a 570kg Limousin cross of Dunain Mains, Inverness and 1,537, £20 gross for a 610kg Limousin cross also from Dunain Mains, Inverness sold to MM. Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall.

Heifers: Bridgend Farm, Dingwall, (LimX), 252.0p twice, 250.0p, 248.0p, Dunain Mains, (LimX), 252.0p.

He also sold 520 premium sheep.

New season lambs (213) averaged 220.0p (+8.6p) and sold for 247.8p per kg and £114 gross.

SQQ 25.5kg to 45.5kg (149) average 218.4p (+6.5p) per kg.

Feed the Sheep (307) sold for £153 gross.

New season lambs (213) averaged 220.0p (+8.6p) and sold at 247.8p per kg and £114 gross for a pair of 46kg Texel Crosses from Inveruglas Farm, Kingussie sold to Messrs. Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall.

SQQ 25.5kg to 45.5kg (149) average 218.4p (+6.5p) per kg.

Feed Sheep (307) sold at £153 gross for a Beltex ewe from Muiryfold Farmhouse, Keith.

The verdict: “A smaller number of advanced lambs were more expensive and well below the buyer’s requirements. Fed and fit sheep now command high prices and despite the costs, this benefits hopper lambs. Ewes met with another strong demand and were again more expensive for all classes.
