NORFOLK, Va. — A Norfolk judge has dismissed the case against a man accused of killing three people, including Virginian-Pilot reporter Sierra Jenkins, in a shooting in downtown Norfolk.

Antoine Legrande Jr. appeared in court Tuesday on second-degree murder and malicious wounding charges in connection with the March shooting. But two of the three witnesses summoned never appeared in court.

Without these witnesses, it was determined that there was not enough to prove probable cause, so the case was dropped.

Commonwealth lawyer Ramin Fatehi said they wanted to hold the right person accountable for the crime and to do that they needed witnesses to testify to what they had seen.

LeGrande was due to be released on Tuesday afternoon. The charges against him can be refiled, the Virginian-Pilot reported.

Devon Harris, 25, of Portsmouth was pronounced dead at the scene of the March shooting

Jenkins, 25, was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

A third victim, Marquel Andrews, 24, from Portsmouth, was hospitalized and died of his injuries on April 12.

This is a developing story.
