Families and loved ones were joined by Greater Manchester Police today in remembering two Greater Manchester Police Officers who were tragically killed on duty.

Today marks ten years since Greater Manchester Police Officers PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes were killed while on duty.

Earlier this morning, Greater Manchester Police gathered with their families and loved ones at the Memorial Garden to remember the officers.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Today marks ten years since our colleagues PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes were tragically killed on duty.

“Earlier, we gathered with their families and loved ones at the Memorial Garden to remember our brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. NeverForgotten .”

Each year the GMP family remembers fallen officers, but this year was particularly poignant with the 10th anniversary.

In 2012 Nicola and Fiona were on duty attending a burglary report in Hattersley and while investigating the incident they were attacked.

Chief Superintendent Phil Davies, said: “Although 10 years have passed, the emotion and grief is still felt on anniversaries like this and remind us of the dangerous situations officers face on a daily basis. .

“The essence and presence of Nicola and Fiona remains with us and is felt tangibly by those who knew them and worked with them, but also their colleagues who joined the GMP family after their passing.”
