ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described Turkey’s timely and valuable support to flood victims in Pakistan as a great manifestation of the unique relationship between the two brotherly countries.

He was meeting on Friday with a Turkish delegation led by Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu and Environment Minister Murat Kurum in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister recalled that the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called him on August 27 and offered his condolences to those who died in the calamity and gave his fullest support to the Pakistani people. He expressed his gratitude to the Turkish people for always supporting Pakistan in difficult times. He pointed out that private businessmen and other friends in Turkey are sending a lot of relief to Pakistan. We have received tents, medicine, food and other items which are being distributed to victims in various parts of the country.

The Prime Minister informed the delegation that the floods killed more than a thousand people including three hundred children. He said millions of people have become homeless. He said the calamity had damaged crops and homes, and people were now spending nights in the open. He expressed his confidence that with the help of Almighty God and the brother country, Pakistan will recover from this unprecedented catastrophic situation and move forward.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan and Turkey are two hearts with one soul and have always supported each other in difficult times.
So far, eleven Turkish military planes and two trains had been sent from Turkiye.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu stressed that his country immediately established air and ground “bridges and brotherhood” to provide emergency aid to those affected by the floods. He said during Friday prayers today that the people of Turkiye will pray for their brothers and sisters in Pakistan and muster more support.

The Turkish minister said that, as instructed by President Erdogan, Turkey’s relevant institutions and agencies dealing with natural disasters are ready to provide enhanced support in accordance with Pakistan’s demands.
