Eddie Hearn thinks YouTube boxing will ‘kill the sport’ if boxing promoters don’t up their game. are starting to prioritize YouTube boxing cards over world-class fights.

Speaking to boxing show DAZN, he said: “It’s a different world and I think ‘great, good for them’. There is boxing and there is YouTube boxing. But we have to be a little careful. It puts pressure on boxing to deliver because if it’s not that stuff [YouTube boxing] will take over and kill the sport in the long run.

“Because we know the numbers he is doing, he is doing very well. So if broadcasters start looking at this and thinking, “actually, maybe we’ll just do boxing on YouTube,” that would be a disaster for the sport. Especially those who love sports, but it puts pressure on us as content providers, as promoters to find the quality to match the numbers and the interest these guys can generate.

YouTube boxing certainly has monumental support. Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren, for example, made 1.5 million PPV buys while Anthony Joshua’s first fight against Oleksandr Usyk made 1.2 million in comparison.

He continued: “I just don’t feel comfortable in all honesty serving him and I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way because I think it has its place, really and I’m not saying I would never do it again because if it makes money it makes sense.

“But I have to be honest, I did the first one, it made a lot of money. But I never really felt “comfortable” as a fight fan. It’s quite difficult to watch sometimes. Both KSI fights were really hard to watch.
