ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) – Family and friends gather around a Rowan County man who lost both legs after being hit by a car while standing behind his truck. work. Crash Morrison was on a garbage collection route on Long Ferry Road.
“Crash Morrison is an incredibly sweet and hardworking man,” Morrison’s cousin Christa Groves wrote. “He is the first to work and the last to leave.”
Morrison was injured on the job Monday. He’s employed at Morrison’s garbage department. According to his family and the Highway Patrol, Morrison was unloading a garbage truck when a driver who had fallen asleep at the wheel hit him with his Cadillac.
Morrison, 55, was airlifted to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health Center in Winston-Salem where he was in intensive care until Thursday, according to Groves.
“Our uncle owns the trash business, and Crash is a relative and friend,” Groves said. “His parents are no longer with us and he has two disabled teenage sons. Due to their disabilities, a son cannot work and is highly dependent on the adults in his life. Not only will Crash find it difficult to take care of himself as he deals with his own disability, but helping his sons will also be an added obstacle.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to try to raise enough money to help Crash with his medical and future expenses. They say his house will have to be made accessible to the disabled.
“Eventually, we would like him to be fitted for prostheses and to be able to undergo physical therapy. He will also need daily help and care at home,” Groves said. “Crash has a long way ahead of him, but being the gentle man he is, he’s in good spirits.”
Groves said the family has set a fundraising goal of $20,000, but in truth, she hopes they will exceed that goal. The GoFundMe can be found here.
