Liverpool have completed the loan signing of Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, with an option to buy for €37.5m (£32.3m).
The Brazil international will join for the rest of the season after making a shock deadline change.
Injuries to Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson have forced Jurgen Klopp into a late change of plans.
The Liverpool manager had insisted just last week that Liverpool were unlikely to make any further signings following the arrivals of Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez earlier this summer.
Henderson’s setback, however, prompted Liverpool to make a late move for the 26-year-old.
“I’m really, really happy to be here with this great shirt with this famous badge that means so much in world football, it’s a dream come true,” Melo told the club’s website.
“We talked a lot, and our ideas and visions matched well, so I’m sure it was the right call.”
“I am really happy and very motivated to continue living my dream on the pitch and giving it my all in a Liverpool shirt.
“Liverpool has a wonderful history in football. I played against Liverpool, I know what it’s like to be in the stadium with the fans behind them.
“I was with the opposition and now I’m on the right side, so I’m really excited. It’s a huge club with a great manager, great players. As I said before, it’s a dream to be here.
Melo, a Brazilian international, started his career in his native country with Gremio, winning the Copa Libertadores in 2017.
Melo joined Barcelona for €31m (£26.7m) in 2018 – playing 72 times – and won the La Liga title in 2018-19.
He left Barcelona for Juventus in 2020, arriving for an initial fee of €72m (£62m), adding the 2020-21 Coppa Italia to his trophy cabinet.
Melo also enjoyed international success, earning 22 caps for Brazil and being named in the 2019 Copa America Team of the Tournament after helping his nation lift the trophy.
