When developer Treasure revealed they were working on a “highly requested” title, our ears perked up. Responsible for some of our favorite games, the possibilities have us excited. However, it looks like the announcement slipped a little early, as Gematsu spotted some “unused footage” on publisher Happinet’s Tokyo Game Show 2022.
The treasure game in question is Radiant Silvergun, a 1998 arcade and Sega Saturn game that finally got a worldwide release on Xbox 360 in 2011. Many imported the game when it was first released and claimed that this shmup started the revival of the genre in the late 90s. So we’re talking about what could be one of the best shmups of all time? Count on us.
It will be the first game developed by Treasure since 2014. It remains to be seen whether it is a remake or a reboot. The incredibly difficult Ikaruga is considered a spiritual sequel, so we’re expecting big things.
No platforms have been announced yet, but it looks like the game will appear on Happinet’s booth during TGS or during one of the company’s livestreams, which are scheduled for September 17 at 5 p.m. JST and September 18 at 6 p.m. JST. Fingers crossed for a Switch announcement!
Check out the full range of Happinet titles on its website. In the meantime, are you excited for the return of Radiant Silvergun? Have fun in the comments!
