GWENT Police have issued an update after a man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a house fire in Hengoed.

Emergency services were called to a property in Ael Y Bryn at 4.46am on November 16 following reports of a fire.

Crews from Aberbargoed, Caerphilly and Pontypridd were present, as well as the police.

No one was inside the property and Gwent Police confirmed no injuries were reported.

A man was later arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger his life.

Gwent Police confirmed the man has since been released on bail.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At approximately 4.46am on Wednesday 16th November we received reports of a domestic fire in Hengoed.

“Teams from Aberbargoed, Caerphilly and Pontypridd stations attended the scene to assist South Wales Police.

“Firefighters used specialist equipment including breathing apparatus, a seven-metre ladder and hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

“A shutdown message was received at 6:57 am.”

“We received a report of a house fire at around 4.40am on Ael Y Bryn in Hengoed,” a Gwent police spokesman said on Wednesday.

“There were no injuries and no one was inside the house.

“Firefighters responded, the road was closed while they dealt with the blaze.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger his life.”
