Council reassures Kidderminster’s Christmas tree isn’t finished

The KIDDERMINSTER council has reassured the Christmas tree in Kidderminster is unfinished amid criticism on social media.

Kidderminster City Council chief executive Lee Jakeman told The Shuttle that “it’s not all over on the tree”.

Residents of Kidderminster have taken to social media to slam the Christmas tree decorations saying they “look like toilet paper”.

However, Mr Jakeman reassured that the tree was not “dressed to its full potential” and the Kidderminster BID team have yet to add the final decorations.

Last year, the city’s Christmas tree was the subject of antisocial behavior. The council therefore took the decision to delay the complete decoration of the tree until the eleventh hour.

Mr Jakeman said: ‘Over the past few days we have been decorating the town ahead of the Christmas lights going on tomorrow (November 19).

“It’s not all over yet, the final decorations will be put up at the last minute.

“People can see the whole finished tree at the Christmas switch tomorrow, which I would encourage everyone to come to.”

Visitors to the city center said the half-decorated tree looked like “a maypole” and that more “festive colors” should have been used.

The Kidderminster Christmas lights switch-on will begin at 2pm on Saturday 19th November with the official lights switching on at 5.15pm.
