firefighters had to ‘pull’ a cow’s head out of a tree after it got stuck.
A team from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) spent over an hour trying to free a cow, which got its head stuck in a tree on Chilbolton Common, Hampshire, Wednesday evening.
The crew received a call about the trapped cow around 7.40pm and worked with an animal rescue consultant to cut down the tree and free the cow by 11pm.
HIWFRS Animal Rescue Tactical Advisor Mark Compton told the PA News Agency: ‘Within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service we have specialist teams trained to manage animal rescues.
“The Winchester Animal Rescue Team worked to free the cow by enlarging the hole and manipulating the animal’s head until it was freed from the tree.”
The service joked on Twitter that the incident was “extremely ridiculous”.
He added: “The crew worked to remove the animal from the willow [on Wednesday] evening.”
Two photos of the animal released by firefighters showed front and rear views of the trapped cow, with one photo of the cow appearing to question the choices that led to the crash.
