A Catford man has been charged with several offenses that occurred in Welwyn Garden City.

A member of the public reported seeing someone trying to break into cars on Tuesday August 30, 2022.

Lyudmil Hristov, of Brownhill Road in Catford, was arrested in Digswell Road after the reports.

Operation Scorpion – a specialist unit of officers who tackle acquired crimes such as drug trafficking, burglaries and robberies – attended the scene and made an arrest.

Hristov, 35, was charged with two counts of interference with a motor vehicle, burglary and two counts of attempted burglary.

He was denied bail and remanded in custody until sentencing.

Detective Inspector Adam Bridges, from the local Welwyn Hatfield Crime Unit, said: ‘I hope news of this swift arrest and charge brings some comfort to local residents.

“I would like to thank the member of the public for reporting his suspicions to the police.

“If you spot any suspicious behavior, never hesitate to call 999 so we can get our resources to the scene as quickly as possible.”

A Hertfordshire Police spokesperson said: “A man who was arrested in Welwyn Garden City on Tuesday (August 30) has been charged with multiple offences.

“Lyudmil Hristov, 35, of Brownhill Road in Catford, was arrested in Digswell Road after a member of the public reported seeing someone trying on car door handles.

“Operation Scorpion – a specialist unit of officers who tackle acquired crimes such as drug trafficking, burglary and theft – immediately attended the scene and made an arrest.

“Hristov was charged with the following five offences:

• Interfere with a motor vehicle x2 (in Blakemere Road)

• Burglary (at Digswell Road)

• Attempted burglary (at Walden Road)

• Attempted burglary (at Blakemere Road)

“He was denied bail and remanded in custody until sentencing.”
