A model hopes entering a national modeling contest will help inspire others to show their true selves.

Obi Monye from Ely has secured a place in Mr British Isles 2022 after applying last year.

“I had to show sports photos, in the kitchen, in the loungewear and in the beachwear,” Obi said.

“I’ve also done some modeling on the beach and done a few pictures in the kitchen, like wearing an apron and been involved as an extra in a few productions in London.”

Obi, who moved from the capital to Ely, works in industrial packaging and has worked on different programs including comedy and drama series Flawless.

But it’s modeling that has become something the father-of-three wants to pursue, following on from his parents.

“My mom was a very influential model and my dad was also a model,” Obi said.

“So I think my childhood helped inspire me to become a model.

“My family has also been involved in clothing for some time.”

During the September 10 competition, Obi is due to prepare for a two-hour presentation at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Chester where he will present two different outfits to the judges.

And having already modeled a range of clothing, the 43-year-old hopes to appeal to an even wider audience.

“It’s one of those things that I would love to experience and see where it leads,” he said.

“Personally, it’s being able to carry yourself and present what you want to present.

“It’s also about influencing and changing people or attracting people to what we wear and being people-pleasing.”

Obi, who was crowned Mr Cambridgeshire 2022, will compete against around 40 other models.

Some of the rewards for becoming Mr British Isles include a modeling and endorsement deal.

But in addition to showing off his abilities, he also wants to make an impact.

“For me, success is about enjoying the event and I can’t wait to be there,” added Obi.

“We are always looking for things to be comfortable in our surroundings and always trying to look good.

“If someone can be affected by my image, it’s gratifying.”
