A DEVELOPER is set to begin work on a former industrial land in Ellesmere Port which will see the creation of 29 new quality family homes.

The program will be developed in partnership with the Muir Group Housing Association and will consist of 25 two- and three-bedroom homes and four one-bedroom apartments that will be made available for both affordable rent and condominium ownership.

Work is currently underway to remove the foundations of the former Cousins factory in preparation for construction to begin in the summer of 2022 and the project is expected to be completed in early 2024.

Lane End Land is behind the development.

Director Scott Ashall said: “The Cromwell Road project with Muir is a great example of how brownfields can be transformed into quality affordable family housing.

“The site is located within walking distance of the town center and will provide new residents with easy access to many local amenities including shops and schools.

“Lane End has a number of other developments in the area, and the addition of Cromwell Road will only improve the opportunities available for local employment, apprenticeships and the supply chain.”

Muir owns and manages over 5,500 homes across the country and offers a diverse range of housing solutions and associated services to meet the needs of existing and potential clients.

Alex Fury, Deputy Director of Assets and Growth at Muir, said: “We’re really excited to offer this program. This will create a fabulous new future for this site and hopefully for the new residents of Muir as well.

“Developments like this are a great example of how Muir is helping to transform local areas whilst providing much needed high quality affordable housing with the support of Homes England funding.

“Muir, Lane End and Cheshire West have worked very hard to bring this program to fruition and I’m delighted to see it progress.”
