A COMPANY specializing in the production of food sauces will have a planning request to build a new storage building and offices decided by councilors in Blaenau Gwent next week.

A planning application from Shoda Sauces Ltd for the project for Units 19 and 20, Rising Sun Industrial Estate, in Blaina will be discussed at a Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council planning meeting on Thursday 8 September.

The company won approval for a storage building in 2021 but has now returned to council with a request for a larger warehouse and an additional office building.

The proposed warehouse would be 60m wide, 18m deep, with a pitched roof with a maximum height of 8.6m, dropping to 6.65m at the eaves.

The office space would be a detached two-storey structure located to the east of the storage building.

The application site is for an irregularly shaped parcel of land of approximately 0.4 hectares in area which was primarily used for parking, storage and service yard to the north and west of the existing industrial buildings .

Documents show that a replacement 40-space car park would be created on the west side of the site.

Planning officer Helen Hinton said: ‘While larger than the previously approved development, overall the site is considered to be large enough to accommodate the proposed development and the shape, the he scale, massing and exterior finish of the buildings would be consistent with the character and appearance of the industrial area.

“In summary, it is considered that the proposal would enhance opportunities for economic development, business growth and employment in the area in accordance with national planning policy, and it is recommended that planning permission be granted. ”

Before construction work can begin, a Sustainable Drainage Application (SuDS) will need to be approved.

Shoda Sauces was created in South Wales in the late 1990s.

Their parent company, Shoda Shoyu, was originally established in Japan in 1873 to brew soy sauce using traditional methods and skills.
