Three Scottish airports among worst in UK for flight cancellations and delays

THREE Scottish airports have been named among the worst in the UK for flight delays.

Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports have all been ranked in the top ten in the ground flight rankings following a survey of 24 top airports.

Hotel software company HotelTechReport has analyzed the Civil Aviation Authority’s delay figures for scheduled and charter flights between January and June this year.

The data showed the number of flights, cancellations and average delays for UK international airports to determine which airport has the worst performance in cancellations so far this year.

He revealed that Aberdeen had canceled a total of 374 out of 11,628 flights in the first six months of the year.

And passengers experienced delays of around 18 minutes on average.

While holidaymakers departing from Glasgow experienced slightly fewer cancellations and delays averaging around 15 minutes.

And 2.51% of flights were cancelled.

Those taking off from Edinburgh Airport experienced delays of around 17 minutes.

And the airport has recorded a total of 628 canceled flights out of 38,243 over the past six months.

But of the UK’s 24 major airports, Southampton topped the list.

On average, passengers experienced delays of around 15 minutes and around 5.82% of flights were cancelled.

Teesside International Airport, Exeter and Bournemouth all ranked last after suffering the smallest delays.

A spokesperson for HotelTechReport said: “If your local airport is at the top of the list, combined with all the ongoing cancellations this year, it might make sense to travel a little further to catch your flight overseas.

“Or even make plans for your ideal stay later this year or in 2023.

“Even looking at where you can expect delays is helpful in helping you plan your route considering more factors.”
