NEARLY 70 members attended the first Senior Blues Meeting of the 2022-23 season, held as always at the Blues Bar at Chester FC.

Guest speakers included CFU President Kieron Sheil, who updated attendees on progress made over the summer, including the recruitment of Calum McIntyre as first-team manager; Georgina Slawinski who explained her role as Chief Executive and handed out copies of Chester FC’s marketing brochure.

She was followed by player Matty Waters, who thanked supporters for financial assistance for his ACL operation through the Chester Former Players Association Just Giving Crowd Funding Appeal.

Matty is being helped in his rehabilitation by the club and is targeting March 2023 as his return date.

Grenville Millington, representing the FPA, asked those in attendance to donate generously if they hadn’t already and then proceeded to a brilliant storytelling routine between the posts as they waited for Calum and Colin Woodthorpe to arrive from training .

Colin needed a little more persuasion to talk than Calum (and Grenville!) but, unsurprisingly, both got the full attention and support of the members for the upcoming season.

On a sad note, after the meeting a number of members attended the funeral of the Blues’ main treasurer, Vic Croft. Vic was encouraged to join the Committee by his good friend and true Blue, Peter Mitchell, who passed away in May 2021. Vic will also be greatly missed.

On Friday August 19, a 53-seat coach carrying passengers of a combined age likely over 3,600 years old departed from Deva Stadium at 9:30 a.m. for the Menai Bridge. The owner of Plas Cadnant was most welcoming, the gardens were spectacular, the food in the cafe was superb and the coach driver was particularly adept at negotiating the single track road which descended steeply into the valley. The weather was perfect and a good day was had by all.

All Senior Blues meetings start at 10.30am in the Blues Bar with tea/coffee and cookies and there is always a raffle with several (mainly cash) prizes.

The next meeting will be on September 2, with Albert Davies – Head of Communications and CFC Football Administrator; CFC Captain George Glendon; Mike Allcock, Academy manager and first team coach.

The next will be the meeting on October 7, with Chris Matheson, MP for Chester and supporter of Chester FC; as well as John Bithell’s great quiz.

On November 4, guest speakers Kate Mylchreest, CFC Board Member and Storyhouse Development Manager, Chester, and Chas Sumner, CFC Historian

Membership is £10 per year and renewals are now due. New members are welcome. All proceeds are directed to the Senior Blues Youth Foundation.
