Vernon Kay called I’m A Celeb’s Charlene White “out of commission” for refusing to sleep in the RV.
The former Family Fortunes host, who appeared on the ITV show’s 2020 series, aired his thoughts on the controversial topic during his appearance on Radio X.
It comes after Charlene’s family broke their silence over her refusal to sleep in a comfortable bed next to former health secretary Matt Hancock.
Frustrated: Vernon Kay called I’m A Celeb’s Charlene White ‘out of order’ for refusing to sleep in the motorhome
Vernon, 48, told radio host Pippa Taylor: ‘I think the scenario that annoys us all is this Charlene situation and her refusing to get into the camper van where there is a comfortable bed, freeing up a normal bed so that someone doesn’t have to sleep in a hammock.
“My experience with the hammock is that they are horrible. I was given a hammock and ended up taking it off the supports, putting it on the floor and sleeping on everyone’s coats, and it was more comfortable than the hammock.
“But I think Charlene played a boo by refusing to get into the motorhome. It’s really painful to watch it because it’s like “it’s very simple Charlene, just make your camp mates happy by going to a comfortable bed”. It’s not like they’re sleeping on a bed of nails!
“But I think that situation is really irrelevant, and I think that’s one of the first questions Ant and Dec will ask her when she leaves, like ‘why didn’t you sleep in the campsite? -because? Is it because you wanted to sleep with camp mates? Or is it because you didn’t want to sleep next to Matt Hancock?

Comfort: Camp leaders, Charlene and Matt, had the luxury of sleeping in the comfy beds in the RV, but Charlene refused. Pictured: Owen and Jill previously in the motorhome
Pippa then added, “I think it’s more because…I thought it was because she saw a big old spider in there and she’s really arachnophobic.”
Vernon continued, “Let’s be honest. They will not put the life of the candidates in danger. They won’t do that. You know, I’m sure in the worst case scenario, they have an antidote ready to use, to inject into anyone if something is toxic.
“I just think it really upsets the camp, you know, and you don’t want to upset George. Obviously Charlene got involved last night with the food and told [Scarlette Douglas] how to cut a cabbage. It was upsetting because now we are at the point where everyone is hungry. Really hungry. And anger takes hold.
‘We didn’t have any explosions [in our camp] because we all got along well. And if there had been a situation like, you know, for example, Charlene refusing to go to a more comfortable bed, I think we would have had a very pragmatic conversation about it and we would have been like “listen, listen , Matt, it’s up to you as the team camp leader to decide whether or not someone should go in the RV. This is surely the solution. I do not know. You try to avoid conflict because you just want to have a good time.
Luxury: The motorhome is the only indoor space in the main camp in the Australian jungle, with other campers having to sleep exposed to the elements.
The former Family Fortunes host, who appeared on the ITV show’s 2020 series, said: ‘My experience with the hammock is that they are awful. They gave me a hammock and I ended up putting it down
It comes after Charlene’s family took to Twitter on her account to share their thoughts on her decision.
They wrote: ‘Hammock looks much cozier tbf. Char should fall asleep, not lie down in comfort.
They then cheekily added: “Sorry Char but either you sleep in the RV or in a hammock or we’re voting for you to give it a try.”

It comes after Mike Tindall railed against Charlene for refusing to sleep in the RV while a camp assistant.
The rugby star, 44, lost his temper during the latest episode after the Loose Women presenter, 42, said she would not be staying in the vehicle with Matt Hancock because of the spiders.
This means there is one less bed available in the camp, which means more people have to sleep in hammocks – a decision that viewers called selfish and which led hosts Ant and Dec to the potentially report to producers.
Mike said on the Wednesday night show after refusing to come in for a third straight night: “Why isn’t she sleeping in the RV?” It’s fucking pissing me off.
Mike later explained to the Bush Telegraph: “If Charlene has been in the motorhome, another bed becomes available.”
“One less in the hammock, so hopefully that creates more and a better night’s sleep for everyone.”

It comes as Ant and Dec said they plan to report Charlene to producers for potentially “breaking the rule” about not sleeping in the RV.
The Geordie duo said the assistant camp leader was “not playing as part of the team”.
Charlene and Matt have been selected as assistants and camp leaders, which means they have comfortable beds in the camper.
Oh no: This comes as Ant and Dec said they plan to report Charlene to producers for potentially ‘breaking the rule’ of not sleeping in the RV
Speaking in an Instagram Live after the show, Dec said of the matter, “Can we talk about the RV hammock situation?” You understood? I do not know.’
Ant then replied, “Why wouldn’t she want to sleep in there, it can’t just be because of the spider.” Is it because you don’t want to sleep next to Matt?
‘Is that right? You have to think about other people who then have to sleep in a hammock because of your actions and then have back pain. So you have to watch your actions, don’t you?
Reaction: Viewers also had their say on the situation, writing: ‘Charlene is so selfish not to get in the RV and free up a bed’
Dec then said, “I’m not sure he’s playing as a team member taking a bed.” When a fan on social media then suggested it was against trial rules, and Ant agreed.
He said: ‘It’s against the rules they said… well yeah maybe. I think that may be the case and I will talk to the producers about it.
Viewers also had their say on the situation, with one writing: “Charlene is so selfish not to get in the RV and free up a bed.”
Another said: “Nothing has ever bothered me more than Charlene not going in the camper.” A third wrote: ‘CHARLENE JUST GO IN THE RV WHY DOES OWEN SLEEP ON THE FLOOR???’
The row arose after Charlene recently said she would not be sleeping in the camper van alongside former health secretary Matt, after the pair were given the luxury privilege for camp leaders.
Charlene and Matt clashed throughout the show, with the reporter quizzing her on her politics as she looked unimpressed after the Tory MP’s controversial initial arrival in the jungle.
Oh my God: And the beds became a point of tension as Owen asked Charlene if she would go back to the RV, where she and Matt had the luxury of sleeping in their roles as camp leaders.
