Jake McLean’s devastated mother has claimed her son was a “trained driver” who could have been distracted, causing the car crash that killed him and injured his girlfriend Yazmin Oukhellou.
Anita Walsh told Bodrum prosecutors that Jake, 33, would not have lost control of the car as it flew out of a bend on a mountainous road in the early hours of Sunday morning because of his expertise driving.
Anita has raised concerns with Turkish prosecutors investigating the accident in which Yazmin, 28, ended up with an injured arm.
An assistant prosecutor who cannot be named under Turkish law told MailOnline: “We spoke with Jake’s mum and she told us something was going on in the car which was distracting him.”
“She does not believe that this accident was caused by her bad driving. She said he was a very competent and experienced driver and would not have lost control of the car like that.
Prosecutors plan to speak to Anita in more detail over the next few days as they try to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

Jake McLean died after crashing his car on a road near the resort town of Bodrum, Turkey
Anita arrived in Bodrum on Tuesday accompanied by Jake’s uncle. She has already been questioned by police and is arranging for her son’s body to be brought back to the UK once the investigation is complete.
Turkish prosecutors revealed they were working on the basis that Jake was drunk while awaiting an autopsy report and that Yasmin may also have been drunk.
They also believe he would have driven “well over” the 40 mph speed limit, although they haven’t established a specific figure for that yet.
Investigators have previously revealed how reality TV star Yazmin shouted “help me, help me”. My friend is dead’ as she rushed to safety moments after the horrifying crash.
Yazmin is currently being treated for arm injuries at Acibadem Hospital in Bodrum, where she is comforted by her mother Lisa.
Adil Mert from the hospital’s International Patients Department said: ‘The patient’s mother has been given a room to stay with her daughter while she undergoes treatment.
“We cannot reveal any details about the patient other than that she is progressing and being well cared for.”

Locals say the route where the accident happened is a notorious accident black spot, especially for tourists who use it to shuttle between bars and clubs at night
Jake and Yazmin were driving in a blue Mercedes E-Class sedan along a windy, mountainous road between the coastal town of Bodrum and the seaside town of Yalikavak as they returned from a night out.
Jake rented the car in Istanbul, then drove to Bodrum, where Yazmin joined him for a break.
The crash took place at around 4:30 a.m., and investigators determined the car tumbled about 70 feet into a left turn and landed in a ravine nearly 30 feet below.
Jake was pronounced dead at the scene while Yazmin was rushed to hospital, where she suffered an arm injury.
After the accident, she climbed through thick, thorny bushes to stop a passing motorist for help.
Photographs have revealed the extent of the damage to the blue Mercedes following the accident.
The passenger side window, where Yazmin is believed to have escaped from, is knocked out while there are bloodstains on the inside of the door. The driver’s side partially collapsed while the vehicle also suffered severe damage to the rear of its exterior.
The roof, with the front and rear sunroofs open, was crushed with all the airbags open in the car, which is at a local garage in Yalikavak.
