Jane Fonda, 84, has revealed she was undergoing chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after receiving the devastating diagnosis. The legendary actress confirmed the news in a statement to her “friends” on Friday night.

She wrote: “So my dear friends, I have something personal that I want to share. I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and started chemotherapy treatments.

“This is a very treatable cancer. 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky.

Jane added that she is “also lucky” because she has “health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments”.

She continued: “I realize, and it is painful, that I am privileged in this. Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer at one time or another and far too many people don’t have access to the quality health care that I receive and that’s not fair.

“We also need to talk a lot more about not just cures but causes so that we can eliminate them. For example, people need to know that fossil fuels cause cancer. The same goes for pesticides, many of which are based on fossil fuels, like mine.

Jane explained that she will be receiving chemotherapy for six months and is “handling the treatments pretty well” so far.

She also vowed that her battle with cancer “will not interfere with my climate activism”.

Jane also assured her loyal supporters that she would be “on hand” to build their “army of climate champions” as the US midterm elections take place in November.

According to the NHS website, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, a network of vessels and glands spread throughout the body.

The lymphatic system is part of your immune system and helps fight infections.

The guidelines say the disease can occur at any age, but it is most common in people over 75.

The most common symptom is a painless swelling of a lymph node, usually in the neck, armpits or groin.

This isn’t the first time Jane has undergone cancer treatment.

In 2010, she underwent surgery to remove a non-cancerous lump in her breast and had a mastectomy six years later.

In 2018, the mother-of-three had to have a cancerous growth removed from her lip, and the following year Jane told British Vogue that she “frequently goes to my dermatologist and gets things cut”.
