Britney Spears’ sons have spoken out amid claims by their father Kevin Federline that they haven’t seen their mother in “months”.
The Toxic hitmaker, 40, shares Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with ex-husband Federline, 44.
Federline recently said their boys had “decided” not to see their mother and opted out of her wedding to actor Sam Asghari, 28, in June.
“There were a lot of things going on that I didn’t feel comfortable with,” he said.
“They tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but at the same time I can say that sometimes it hurts to be in that position.”
Now Preston and Jayden have offered their side of the story and opened up about their hopes of reconciling with their pop star mother.
Their comments, published by Mail Online, will air on ITV News this Friday.
Emphasizing that there is ‘no hate’ between them, Jayden said: ‘I 100% think this can be resolved. It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better, I really want to see her again.
Sending a direct message to his mother, he added: “I love you very much, I hope the best for you.” Maybe one day we can sit down like this and talk again.
However, the two teenagers didn’t think her marriage to Sam – whom she met while filming a music video in 2016 – would have been the right place to reunite.
“At the time, it just wasn’t the right time to go. I’m not saying I’m not happy for her,” Jayden explained. “I’m really happy for them, but she didn’t invite the whole family and if it was just me and Preston, I just don’t see how this situation would have ended on good terms.”
The boys’ father reportedly received 70 per cent custody in 2019, with him and his wife of nine, Victoria, 39, being present for much of their upbringing.
He claimed the boys eventually ended their nights with their mother.
Federline has two older children, Kori, 20, and Kaleb, 18, from a previous relationship with actress Shar Jackson, as well as two children with Victoria – Jordan, 11, and Peyton, eight, and Jayden says that he feels “safe” living with his blended family.
“I feel like this is my safe place. My house. I love everyone here,” he said.
Jayden, who appears more outgoing than his brother during their interview, insists the siblings are “very united”: “He always watches over me and I watch over him. We make sure we are both mentally healthy.”
They also reflected on growing up in the spotlight and feeling “inspired” by her mother’s success.
“There was this TV and it was showing all these people, and it was showing her singing and dancing on stage, and when I saw I was like, ‘Wow, that’s a lot of people,’ and I came to realize how famous she was and how successful she was as a person and that inspired me,” Jayden added.
In November 2021, the Gimme More singer was released from her 13-year conservatorship, allowing her to once again be in control of her life and finances.
Speaking about Jamie Spears – the musician’s father – Jayden claims he “doesn’t deserve all the hate he gets in the media”.
‘At first he was just trying to be like any father by letting her pursue his daughter’s dream of becoming a superstar, but I thought maybe the guardianship had lasted too long, probably why my mum was very mad at the whole situation that she was working on for too long and i personally think she was. She should have taken a break and relaxed,” he said.
But he insists he loves his grandfather “with all my heart”.
“He was just trying to be a father.”
Responding to her sons’ interview, Spears posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram account, telling the boys she sends them “all the love in the world” “every day.”
“My love for my children has no boundaries,” she wrote, saying it “deeply saddens” her to learn that she “did not live up to her expectations as a mother”.
“Maybe one day we can meet face to face and talk about it openly,” she added before tearing up their father and calling him a “hypocrite”.
